Internal testing instructions
Internal testing
The form is at a stage where there is a layout structure for the questions, with guidance alongside each question to support the legacy officers using the form.
We need to finalise the questions and complete the guidance.
The questions and guidance currently shown is a rough draft based on meetings with Cara, Martin, and ILM members.
By going through the form from a legal viewpoint, we can see if any questions need adding or amending, and come to a final agreement / decisions on the content and wording of the guidance.
The aim of the guidance is to make the form genuinely useful for less experienced legacy officers by explaining the 1975 Act so they understand their situation, without giving away too much expertise and even hooking them in and encouraging contact with IDR.
The guidance should find a balance between being genuinely useful and hooking them in – enough information so they know they don’t know enough.
Use caveats as an opportunity to offer solutions to possible issues they may face. ‘We can help’.
There are different types of content and guidance, as follows:
Inline guidance
Contextual guidance next to each question within the form to help the legacy officers answer the questions, with basic overview of issues around 1975 Act to help their understanding.
The inline guidance can also contain links to pop-ups / visual examples of documents / links to external pages / calls to action / etc
This guidance will appear alongside the questions in a 2nd right-hand column. It is currently in the blue boxes underneath each question which is less clear but will do for the internal testing.
Conditional guidance
Text boxes that pop up underneath certain questions with information based on the legacy officers input.
There is a traffic light colour code for these boxes – RED: No claim / YELLOW: Maybe / GREEN: Claim allowed.
These coloured boxes will appear directly underneath the corresponding question.
This content will be repeated in the personalised report.
External links
The inline guidance can contain links to external pages for more information around a subject if the user wants to dig a little deeper. This could be publicly available pages or IDRN pages that can only be viewed by subscribers. If the information on these pages is genuinely useful it will encourage new IDRN subscribers who want to see the member-only content.
Hierarchy
We need to prioritise the guidance so the most important and useful information is clearly visible in the inline guidance, but the less important information is in pop-ups or external links.
Visual layout
The current form below is a rough prototype for this internal testing process – the visual design is currently underway to style the questions and guidance.
This rough mock-up shows how we can fit lots of useful information in the right-hand side with accordions to reveal more information that helps them understand their situation and what they need to do.
This space can also include pop-ups / links to external pages / visual examples / calls to action / etc
Internal testing feedback
Internal feedback boxes for each question will be added this week so anyone carrying out the testing can add notes / suggestions / corrections / etc directly to the form.
We can then combine all the feedback to iterate and refine the form and make final decisions.
Have a look through in the meantime, let me know if you have any questions.
